Wheat has entered its tillering stage on about 80% of the areas sown with autumn varieties. This is due to sufficient water content in the soil and favorable temperatures, Info-Prim Neo learned from Mihail Suvac, department head at the Ministry of Agriculture.
Mihail Suvac said autumn varieties of cereals for the 2013 harvest were sown on a total area of 373,000 hectares. Atumn wheat was sown on nearly 300,000 hectares, autumn barley on 50,000 hectares, and rape on 23,000 hectares.
In November, precipitations across the country averaged 27-30mm and reached 40mm in some areas. This made it possible to start sowing the land that had already been prepared.
Mihail Suvac said the areas sown with wheat should be enough to ensure food security.
