The bibliographical data of 1,146 Romanian writers from all the corners of the world were included in a book entitled “Encyclopedia of Contemporary Romanian Writers Everywhere”. The volume was launched inside the National Library on January 24, on the occasion of the Day of the Union of Romanian Principalities. It was coordinated by writer Traian Vasilcău and academician Mihai Cimpoi, IPN reports.
Traian Vasilcău said the encyclopedia appeared out of the wish to unify all contemporary Romanian writers on earth. It is sad, but not all the Romanian language writers could be included in it. “At first, it was to be named the dictionary of Romanian contemporary writers everywhere. But we finally had an encyclopedia. Today is the day of union of the Romanian principalities. We come with this book to show that the union can be forged through culture. I mean the spiritual union,” he noted.
According to Traian Vasilcău, the book is bibliographical and contains data about the birth of writers, carried out studies and activities, written works and appreciation. “We had dictionaries of writers from Moldova, from Romania, smaller dictionaries, but didn’t have an encyclopedia of Romanian writers, either contemporary or classical. If God helps us, we will reach the second edition of the book that would contain other names too,” he concluded.
For his part, Mihai Cimpoi said the bibliographical materials were sent by authors and everything was done according to their view. The coordinators didn’t intervene. “We tried to embrace the whole world of writers from the Romanian area and to prove the unity of the area by language, by writings and by the presence of writers from different parts of the world,” he stated.
Poet Tatiana Afanasie-Crăciun said she is proud that she was included in the encyclopedia alongside another over 1,000 rather valuable Romanian writers. “It is great to be near such valuable writers. This is recognition, encouragement and a great honor for us,” she noted.
The encyclopedia appeared in Romanian in a print run of 1,200 copies.
