Bilateral consultations on Moldova’s association with EU to be held with Russia

Foreign Minister Natalia Gherman, who paid a visit to Moscow, informed her Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov about Moldova’s intention to sign the Association Agreement with the EU in the near future. The sides agreed to organize bilateral consultations at expert level on the issue, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, in the April 4 meeting, the two officials discussed the cooperation in the commercial-economic sphere and the energy sector and the lifting of the restrictions from the bilateral trade. They agreed to convene the ordinary meeting of the Moldovan-Russian intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation where to examine the whole range of issues from the economic sector.

The two officials also discussed the social protection of the Moldovans working in Russia, the Moldovan-Russian cooperation in the humanities, especially the organization of the Moldovan Culture Days in Russia, the preparation for signing of the bilateral humanitarian agreement for 2014-2016, and the Transnistrian conflicts settlement, with the interlocutors pleading for resolving the dispute based on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova.

At the end of the meeting, the two ministers signed the plan of consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova and the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Russia for 2014-2015.
