The bill concerning the foreigners’ regime of stay in Moldova, which provides for the creation of internal checkpoints along the Nistru River, in the second reading will be debated in the autumn-winter session. In the last sitting of the Parliament’s spring-summer session, Igor Corman made use of his right of Speaker and removed the bill from the agenda, IPN reports.

Igor Corman argued that it is an important bill that must be examined thoroughly.

According to the bill authors, the setting up of internal checkpoints along the Nistru will facilitate the registration of foreigners who cross Moldova’s border through the Transnistrian region. The legislation says that the foreigners who enter Moldova are obliged to register their stay at the Migration and Asylum Bureau or an office of the state-run documentation company “Registru” within 72 hours. If the bill is passed, the stay will be registered at the internal checkpoints too.

When the bill was adopted in the first reading, the Communist MPs blocked the legislature’s rostrum, accusing the parliamentary majority of wanting to create a border on the Nistru.
