In its 133rd plenary session last week, the Venice Commission held an exchange of views with Veronica Mihailov-Moraru, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Moldova, and adopted the joint follow-up opinion of the Venice Commission and the Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law (DGI) of the Council of Europe to the joint opinion on the draft law on the Supreme Court of Justice of the Republic of Moldova. It ascertained that most of its previous recommendations, from the Opinion adopted in October 2022, were taken into consideration and only some technical details are yet to be adjusted, the Ministry of Justice noted in a press release.
The Venice Commission ended 2022 with a record number of endorsed opinions, with the Republic of Moldova being high on the list of countries that asked for the Commission’s opinion before doing the justice sector reform.
