In order to obtain a liberalized visa regime with the EU, Moldova should first of all deal with the issuing of biometric passports to all the people, Wolfgang Behrendt, Head of the Political and Economic Section of the European Union Delegation to Moldova, said in a meeting of the institution's Press Club, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Wolfgang Behrendt, when Moldova achieves the objectives set out in the plan, it will be clear if it is ready to benefit from this regime. “We do not have time to lose. We must implement this plan. Not only combating of corruption, but all the points of the plan are important. The strengthening of all the national institutions, civil society, the press and every person is a solution for quicker carrying out this plan. Not Europe needs a liberalized visa regime, but Moldova,” said Rosian Vasiloi, head of the apparatus of the Border Guard Service's director general. He stressed that the approval of the new law on border guards will be a step towards implementing the visa regime liberalization plan. The Government of Moldova was handed over the plan on the liberalization of the visa regime with the EU on January 24. The national program for implementing the given plan includes measures aimed at adjusting the legislation, introducing biometric passports, securing the documents and borders, and combating corruption.
