A service investigation was initiated into a Border Police employee at the Tudora crossing point. He is suspected of receiving bribery in order to facilitate smuggling across the border. According to a Border Police press release, the border officer is suspended from office over the course of the investigation.
According to the press release, on Monday, October 28, a Moldovan driving a freight minibus attempted to enter Moldova at the Tudora crossing point. Upon cargo inspection, the driver could not provide origin documents for some of the cargo. This finding led to the issuance of protocol papers regarding the "violation of rules of road transport of persons and goods".
While the case was documented, the driver said that, one day earlier, he passed through the same crossing point, where a Border Police employee would have facilitated the illicit crossing of the border for a sum of money. However, upon entering the Ukrainian customs, he was not granted passage, which led to his return to Moldova.
The Border Police said that "in order to identify all relevant circumstances, as well as to establish potential disciplinary violations, a service investigation has been initiated". Additionally, according to procedure, relevant authorities will be notified.
