A driver, a Romanian citizen, who intended to leave the Republic of Moldova, was stopped at the border after Eva, the Border Police’s dog, detected a suspicious smell in a bag that the man had under the front seat of the car. Following checks, border guards and customs officials discovered nine packages with a white substance that is suspected to be a drug, IPN reports.

The 23-year-old driver showed up at the Leova border crossing point on Sunday evening. There were three passengers of Hungarian nationality in his vehicle. A canine team of the Border Police was involved in the checks. The driver said that the substance was offered to him by a friend for personal consumption.

The nine packages were seized and are to be examined. The investigation into this case is continued by border guards of the South Regional Division.
