Border Police officers will improve their English or study it from nil, after an English language lab was opened within the Department on Tuesday, November 20, thanks to US funding, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Besides the language lab, the Border Police Department received communication equipment that will allow its officers to communicate with their colleagues from other departments of the Ministry of the Interior, even if the latter don’t have a high-end communication system as the Border Police.
US Ambassador in Moldova William Henry Moser handed the equipment to the Border Police in the presence of Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean. On this occasion, the Ambassador had a bilateral meeting with head of the Border Police Dorin Purice, where he learned about the institution’s reform path, about the actions done in this regard and about the obtained successes.
The diplomat assured that the American Government will continue to support the reform process through staff training and technical assistance. He praised the Border Police’s efforts to meet international standards, which is an imperative for the successful implementation of the reform of the Ministry of the Interior.
Minister Dorin Recean said that the US actions proved they want a secure Moldova, prepared for the challenges that lay ahead of the state institutions.
The top language lab and the TOPEX IP Radio Gateway equipment were provided by the US State Department’s Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation through the Export Control and Border Security Program. The value of the donation is over $65,000 and came as an answer to a request from the Ministry of the Interior.
