The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) maintains its position that the broadcasters must include at least 30% of their own products in the broadcast schedules from April 1. On March 4, the BCC examined a petition from 14 broadcasters that consider that the Council’s decision runs counter to the legal norms. Their request to annul the Council’s previous decision was rejected by six of the nine members of the BCC, Info-Prim Neo reports.
BCC chairman Marian Pocaznoi said it’s a shame for Moldova to discuss only now the obligation to ensure 30% of the own products.
Two BCC members voted in favor of the broadcasters’ request. One of them, Nicolae Damaschin, said that it is the quality of the broadcast products that counts, not the quality. He said that no animated cartoons and not enough movies and documentaries are produced in Moldova.
At the same time, member Olga Barbalata said that by obliging the broadcasters to have 30% of own products they protect the national values. If they say that the programs made in Moldova are not of a high quality, the broadcasters should do nothing at all.
In December, the BCC passed a decision whereby the broadcasters are obliged to ensure at least 30% of the own products from April 1.
In the same meeting, the Council warned publicly the TV channel Jurnal TV for broadcasting the serial “Tudors’ Dynasty” that contains obscene scenes and offensive language. The serial is broadcast at 19.50, when is prime time. The channel was warned to broadcast the serial after 22.00 and include the “15 and up” warning.
