An objective of the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) this year is to obtain the adoption by Parliament of a bill that obliges making known the owners of radio stations and TV channels. BCC chairman Marian Pocaznoi has told Info-Prim Neo that the Broadcasting Code now does not provide such levers and this law will ensure greater transparency. “For us it is important to ensure transparency so that we know who the owner and final beneficiaries of a TV channel or radio station are. We drafted a relevant bill and hope it will be passed,” said Marian Pocaznoi. As to the BCC’s activity report for 2012, Marian Pocaznoi said the broadcasting sector made significant progress in 2012 and they showed that Moldova can ensure a plurality of opinions. “The ensuring of the plurality of opinions was the first positive point. The second was that the protection of children in broadcasting was regulated in 2012. Social and education campaigns were carried out to protect the minors,” said the BCC chairman. Among accomplishments, Marian Pocaznoi mentioned the fact that last year several broadcasters that took part in the contest received cameras, computers and other objects provided with the aim of supporting the broadcasters. “In 2013 we must ensure greater transparency in our activity. We intend to launch a new website and will continue to monitor how the general provisions are respected and how the national products are promoted by the TV channels,” said Marian Pocaznoi. On January 31, the BCC voted the Council’s activity report for 2012.
