The General Public Amenities Division earlier this year announced its intention to erect new public toilets in the Public Garden “Stephan the Great and Holy” and in the Park of the Birth of God Cathedral, but the plans changed. Owing to the pandemic, the budget was modified and money for these projects will no longer be allocated.

Contacted by IPN for a comment, the head of the Division’s Territorial Development and Sanitation Section Vasile Efros said the toilets working now in the central parks are managed by business entities, but these are not adjusted to the need of persons with locomotor disabilities. It was thus decided to build new toilets. The projects were postponed. They also need the consent of the Monuments Council so that the constructions this year will only be designed and the public toilets in the Parks “Valea Morilor”, “Sarmisegetuza” and “Râșcani” will be repaired.

Vasile Efros noted that the public toilets in the parks of Chisinau were closed for the period of the state of emergency, but are now open. The tax for using a toilet is 2 lei.
