By 5,000 lei to 14 victims of April 2009 events

Fourteen persons who were injured during the April 7, 2009 events will receive lump sums of 5,000 lei each. For these allowances and for other purposes, the Government will transfer 142 million lei from its reserve fund to the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family, Info-Prim Neo reports. The executive will also allocate 52,000 lei to the Ministry of Education for helping Damian Hancu recover a year of study in France, which he missed as a result of the April events. Another 26,500 lei will be transferred to the Ministry of the Interior for covering the sanatorium rehabilitation cots for five police officers. Overall, the Government will allot 222,000 lei from its reserve fund for helping civilians and police officers who became victims of the April events. Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase said only 19 persons lodged applications with the governmental commission for identifying the persons who suffered injuries during the April 7, 2009 protests. According to the Institute for Human Rights, there have been 467 victims among civilians and 271 victims among police officers. 90% of the policemen who had been hurt then received assistance from the Ministry.
