The members of the Cabinet will no longer benefit from social guarantees in case of the Government’s reorganization, dismissal or expiration of the mandate. On December 3, Parliament passed a bill to abrogate the Law on Social Guarantees for Cabinet Members that was adopted in1999, IPN reports.

According to the Communist MPs, who drafted the bill, the provision of much more advantageous social guarantees to the Cabinet members, compared with other civil servants, does not ensure transparency and generates excessive budget costs that do not represent a reasonable investment in the long run.

Until now, the members of the Government received a lump sum of six average monthly salaries if, after dismissal or expiration of the mandate, they didn’t form part of the new executive or weren’t named to other public posts. Also, during three months these benefitted from a monthly allowance equal to one average monthly salary if they were not employed in the period.
