The National Network of Local Youth Councils of Moldova has launched a public call to young people and the local authorities to take part in the process of constituting district and municipal youth councils. During three months, the territorial-administrative units can ask for technical support from the Ministry of Youth and Sport and the formed councils could later apply for financial support in the amount of at most 40,000 lei, IPN reports.
According to the chairman of the National Network of Local Youth Councils of Moldova Octavian Ciobanu, the youth councils will identify efficient measures to meet the needs of young people from the communities of which they form part and will work out youth programs for the public authorities for the next budgetary year.
“The local or district councils promote the interests of the young people from the community. A councilor knows exactly how to transmit a message to young people or the local public authorities of the second level. It is a well-trained person who knows how to become involved in the decision-making process and to identify the needs of young people,” stated Octavian Ciobanu.
The councils will be created in several stages. A target group of young people will be identified to cooperate with the network members. A campaign to inform the young people will be later carried out. Young people will be delegated to form part of the council as a result of a community assembly. In the end, there will be held a general assembly to constitute the youth council.
Constantin Turcanu, deputy head of the Youth Division of the Ministry of Youth and Sport, said each district youth council will be able to get up to 40,000 lei in financial support from the national budget for institutional development. At the same time, their development is possible with the participation of both local and central authorities, which will contribute at least 20% of the necessities at the local level.
The National Network of Local Youth Councils of Moldova consists of ten youth councils working in nine territorial-administrative units.
