The Ministry of Education today has started a campaign to promote the profession of teaching among young people, in a bid to compensate for the current deficit of 2,000 teaching positions in the education system and counting.

The “I Want to Become A Teacher” Campaign aims to inform young people of the benefits of choosing studies and a subsequent career in education, the Ministry said in a press release.

The benefits include dorm accommodation throughout the duration of studies, stipends higher than elsewhere (+20% for freshmen and +40% for final-year students), internships and a guaranteed employment.

After graduation and post assignment, young specialists are entitled to a one-off amount of up to 120,000 lei. Additionally, young teachers receive monthly payments to cover rent costs and utility bills. After working at least 12 months in a public school, they also qualify for a loan under the First House 2 Program.

During the campaign, handouts will be distributed in education institutions and at various events, and successful pedagogical practices will be promoted.
