The Office of Ombudspersons, namely ombudsman Tudor Lazar, will launch a campaign to combat domestic violence entitled “Family without violence, society without violence!” in partnership with the Association “Promo-LEX”. The campaign will start on October 15, when it is celebrated the International Day of Rural Women, and will end on November 25, when it is marked the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, IPN reports.
In the period, employees of the national institution for human right protection and promotion and of “Promo-LEX” will meet with groups of people in a number of settlements of the country to inform them about the legal mechanisms for protecting the victims of domestic violence. Also, journalists, psychologists and public figures in the meetings will discuss the impact of domestic violence on victims, children, family and society in general and the stereotypes and gender-based prejudice, which favor domestic violence.
A series of meetings will be held between employees of the Office of Ombudspersons and sector policemen from a number of districts of the country. They will center on the problems faced by the police in dealing with violent conflicts in the family and in ensuring the access of the victims of domestic violence to justice.
The results of the campaign will be summed up on November 25 in a working meeting that will involve representatives of the central public institutions with powers to prevent and combat domestic violence, international organizations, NGOs promoting women’s rights, representatives of centers or shelters for victims of domestic violence and aggressors. As a result of the meeting, there will be formulated proposals for eliminating obstacles that undermine the functioning of the mechanisms for combating domestic violence. The proposals will be later submitted to the competent authorities.
