The “Caravan of Biodiversity” has been launched in Chisinau. On this occasion, officials of the Ministry of the Environment and students of the State University of Moldova and of the University of European Political and Economic Studies disseminated ecological education messages all over the country.

The caravan will promote the message that the environment must be kept clean and must be protected. Students and ecological activists will pay visits to settlements and will propagate educational messages about the conservation of the flora and fauna.

Minister of the Environment Gheorghe Salaru said that society must become involved in ensuring a clean environment. A law on waste storage areas needs to be adopted. Asked by IPN, the official said that one cannot demand that the people do not throw litter everywhere if there are no specially designed places for this.

Student Ion Ungureanu said the “Caravan of Biodiversity” is an initiative aimed at informing the people about the risks to which they expose themselves through negligence. “This year’s caravan has a new view on biodiversity and will be much more active because it involves more people,” he stated.

The ecological inspectors attending the launch of the project said they suggested raising the fines for violating the environment protection norms two times, to 2,000 lei for private individuals and to 10,000 lei for legal entities.
