The Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime (CCCEC) confirmed that legal action was taken against the director general of the National Standardization and Metrology Institute Igor Caldare, who is accused of abuse of power in illegally offering premiums of about 70,000 lei and misconduct in office in authorizing a company from outside the Institute to provide calibration services even if the Institute had the specialists and equipment needed to caliber cisterns itself, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Center says that the director of the Institute has the right to award premiums, including by the decision of the Administration Board, but the quarterly premium must not exceed the monthly premium. This condition was not observed by the current director and his predecessor Alexandru Tarlajanu.
The two cases opened against Igor Caldare were examined by the General Prosecution Division. The officers of the CCCEC say the cases will be sent to court, but they did not ask that the director of the National Standardization and Metrology Institute be arrested as he responded to all the citations he received.
However, the General Prosecution Division submitted an application to the Prosecutor's Office, asking that it, for its part, asks the Ministry of Economy, as employer, to dismiss Igor Caldare.
Immediately after the conference, while near the office of the CCCEC, Igor Caldare said the Center tries to divert attention from the fraudulent schemes used at the National Standardization and Metrology Institute to issues that could lead to his dismissal.
