CEC announces number of elective posts for local elections

As many as 12,638 elective positions are to be filled in the local general elections of June 5, the Central Election Commission (CEC) has said. By the end of this week, the Commission is to receive reports on the constitution of the district electoral councils. Afterward, the electoral contenders will be able to submit documents for being registered as candidates, Info-Prim Neo reports. Of the mentioned figure, 10,622 persons will be elected to serve on district and municipal councils, while 1,118 candidates will become members of village councils. In the June 5 elections, 898 candidates will be elected as mayors. The Chisinau Municipal Council has the largest number of members - 51. In the local elections, there will be elected 18 mayors of the suburban settlements of Chisinau municipality, the mayor general of Chisinau and 300 councilors. The municipality of Balti and the districts of Cahul and Hancesti have by 35 municipal/district councilors. In the other administrative units, there are 33 and fewer councilors. The largest number of mayors will be elected in Floresti and Hancesti districts – 40 and, respectively, 39. The villages of Hancesti and Cahul districts have the highest number of local councilors – 479 and 433 respectively.
