The approval of the expenditure estimate for organizing and holding the snap parliamentary elections of September 6, 2019 was included in the agenda of the June 18 meeting of the Central Election Commission.
Contacted by IPN for a comment, CEC president Alina Russu said the Commission received the decree on the dissolution of Parliament and setting of snap legislative elections for September 6, 2019 that was signed by Pavel Filip on June 9.
According to Alina Russu, as the elections are organized with public funds, the working out of the expenditure estimate is the first step taken by the CEC. When this is approved by the Commission, it is remitted to the Government. If there is budgetary support, they will agree the subsequent actions, such as the approval of the calendar plan, constitution of the electoral bodies and deciding of the period for registering electoral contestants.
Asked how much the elections could cost, the CEC president said the sum will be similar to that approved for the parliamentary elections of February 24, which were organized at a cost of 110 million lei.
