The Central Electoral Commission has formally taken notice of Liberal councilor Dorin Chirtoaca’s resignation from the Chisinau Municipal Council and has validated the mandate of the alternate candidate Mariana Lungu in his stead, IPN reports.
Mariana Lungu has 30 days to resign from any posts that are legally incompatible with the new job.
Last week, ex-Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca announced he was stepping down as municipal councilor and as president of the Liberal Party, thus interrupting his political and public activity. He said this was in protest at the criminal proceedings started against him and at the prosecutors’ failure to recognize the cases as “politically motivated”.
