Census to be taken in Moldova in 2014

The Government approved a bill on the organization and taking of the population and housing census on April 1-14, 2014, Info-Prim Neo reports. Lucia Spoiala, the head of the National Bureau of Statistics, said the aim of the census is to collect and process data about the number of people in Moldova, the demographic and socioeconomic structure, the number of households and the living conditions. A series of preliminary measures will be taken before the census, including the preparation of the necessary documents, drawing up of the lists of dwellings, working out of the cartographic materials, and recruiting and training of the census takers. A trial census will be taken in April 2013. The last population census in Moldova was taken in 2004, while the housing census will be taken for the first time. The costs were estimated at 89.8 million lei or US$7.7 million. They will be covered with money from the state budget and from foreign funds.
