A center for sterilizing stray dogs and for euthanizing these, depending on the case, will be set up in Chisinau. The cages are now being installed, acting mayor of Chisinau Ruslan Codreanu was quoted by IPN as saying in the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services.
The aggressive animals or those who suffer from rabies will be euthanized. The municipal services were entrusted with the task of initiating the procedure for purchasing medicines and food for animals by October 15 and of preparing the set of documents needed for the center to be accredited by the National Food Safety Agency.
“They are now working on the cages, while the medical office was 80% outfitted,” stated Ruslan Codreanu.
A sum of 1 million lei was allocated from the municipal budget for sterilizing the stray dogs last yearend. “There are too many dogs for building a shelter and keeping them there. They breed too swiftly. Not many dogs have been neutered until now and the problem wasn’t thus solved. The sterilization should cover a large number of dogs so that 2,000-3,000 dogs are spayed in two-three months,” noted the acting mayor.
Ruslan Codreanu added that foreign specialists will come to Chisinau in November to help the municipal services in the process so that all the stray dogs are sterilized in half a year.
