A Chisinau woman complains that she is a victim of corruption and indifference on the part of judges and police inspectors.
A woman in her early 50s, Vera Esanu is a vendor at the Chisinau Central Market. In February a colleague reported her to the police for an alleged verbal offense. Vera Esanu learned later that she was to pay a fine. “The police officer who drew the report violated my rights. He compiled the report in my absence and my signature was faked”, says the woman.
On May 12 the woman was summoned before the court. “I was the victim of a calumny. I had to file an appeal against the report of the police inspector”, said Vera Esanu. The woman recounted that other court sittings followed where she wasn't summoned to, and eventually the court exempted her from the fine but deprived her of the right to drive a vehicle.
Vera Esanu complained to the Supreme Magistracy Council requesting it to discipline the judge for “a wrong ruling, based on a falsity”. But she was told that all the actions of the judge were in conformity with the professional ethics and no disciplining measures would follow. The woman then complained to the SIS and the Centru Police Commissariat. The latter remitted the complaint to the district court, and a new court hearing is to take place at the end of September.
