The period of the state of emergency will not be taken into account when calculating the 180 days during which motor vehicles registered abroad can stay in Moldova, according to the decision taken by the Commission for Exceptional Situations in the evening of March 24, IPN reports.

After the Commission’s meeting, Prime Minister Ion Chicu, who chairs the Commission, noted that the vehicles registered abroad must be taken out of the country after staying for 180 days on Moldova’s territory. “It’s clear that this cannot be done now. Respectively, the Commission decided to exclude the period of the state of emergency from the 180 day-period. So, the given period will not be taken into account when calculating the period of stay,” said the official.

Under the Customs Code, the resident and nonresident private individuals can introduce motor vehicles into the customs territory of Moldova for personal purposes without paying import duties, but by paying the vignette (road tax), only if these stay for 180 days during a period of 12 consecutive months.

A state of emergency was declared in Moldova for 60 days as of March 17. As many as 125 cases of infection with the novel coronavirus have been confirmed in Moldova so far.
