The Government supported the legislative initiative to complement article 53 of the Criminal Code put forward by MP Veaceslav Platon, Info-Prim Neo reports Article 53 defines the powers of the prosecutor in court. Under the proposed amendments, the prosecutor can drop the charges against the defendant partially or fully if the proofs do not confirm the accusations, by explaining the reasons to the court. Also, the charges can be dropped after the court passes such a decision. In this connection, Premier Vlad Filat spoke about the cases opened against MPs, civil servants and members of parties by political order. “I read about the closing of cases every day and I'm afraid to find the cases opened against me among them. All these cases must be examined thoroughly and it is the court that must decide whether the person accused is to blame or not. The prosecutors close these cases without informing the society why they were closed or why they were started. If we allow that the cases be closed as if nothing had happened and the people had not been terrorized, when a new election campaign starts or other situations occur, the cases will be reopened and the terror will restart,” the Premier said.
