After a month’s testing, the train that was renovated in Romania will start running on the route Bender-Ocnita. Until July 26, when the cost of the trip will be calculated, passengers will be able to buy tickets at the old price, Info-Prim Neo reports. On Sunday, July 22, the board of the Moldovan Railway Company (CFM) organized a special train ride to Ungheni for the press. CFM director general Vitalie Struna said that on the route Bender-Ocnita, the train would stop only in district centers, in order to maintain a higher speed and reach the destination sooner. Until now, the ride from Chisinau to Ocnita lasted 8 hours and a half. With the new train, the time will be reduced to 5 hours and a half. Local trains, that will be renovated as well, will be used for short trips, with stations in every village. CFM plans to renovate 14 local trains over an year, which would circulate every hour. Until now, the price of tickets from Chisinau to Ocnita was 28 lei. From Thursday, they’ll be by at least 30% more expensive. Passengers will have the option to choose between class I, class II and class III. The latter will be the cheapest. The prices will be somewhere between 55 and 120 lei. Vitalie Struna explained that these would be the prices for tickets bought at the station. The tickets bought in the train would be 10% costlier. The wagons are equipped with air conditioning, TV sets, Internet, electrical outlets and video cameras. The only differences between classes are the number and comfort of seats. For example, class I also features tables. The train renovation took 63 days and cost €2 million.
