A chief engineer of Moldova’s Water Agency who was charged with passive corruption paid 45,000 lei damages to the state. Recently, this was given five years’ probation. Besides the 45,000 lei, the former engineer will have to pay a fine of 70,000 lei and will not be able to hold public posts for a five-year period, IPN reports.
According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, in July-September 2015 the engineer asked for 200,000 lei from a business entity for selling at advantageous prices property managed by the company in the absence of a tender contest. The property consisted of metal and reinforced concrete pipes. Damage of over 45,000 lei was thus caused to the state.
The culprit admitted his guilt and paid damages.
