Chief engineer of RED Union Fenosa convicted after ten-year trial

The sector chief engineer of the Comrat power distribution network of RED Union Fenosa, who was accused of violating the rules of using energy facilities and of causing thus the death of a person, was given a four-year suspended sentence after a trial that lasted for ten years, IPN reports, quoting the Prosecutor General’s Office.

It happened in Ceadâr-Lunga district in October 2008. Being responsible for ensuring the security and completion of works on power networks, the chief engineer violated the regulations concerning the technical exploitation of power networks. Consequently, a man who was pasturing his cows in a field died electrocuted by a high-voltage cable hanging on an electricity pole.

The culprit is to pay 52,000 lei in respect of pecuniary and nonpecuniary damage to the injured party.

The case was examined for five times at the Supreme Court of Justice. The last judgement was definitive and executory, but can be appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice according to an ordinary procedure.
