Chief forester and mayor’s office employee arrested on bribery charges

The head of the forest sector of Soroca district and an employee of the Balti mayor’s office were arrested on suspicion of passive corruption, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime, the chief forester of Soroca is suspected of asking US$1,100 from an employee of his for not making him redundant from his job. He was caught in the act of taking the money marked ‘bribe’. The operation took place in the center of Soroca town. A similar case happened at the mayor’s office of Balti municipality. The anticorruption officers arrested a female employee of the Education, Youth and Sport Division. According to the denouncer, she asked for €300 from him for registering a minor at the local school. The woman was caught red-handed in her office. Both of the suspects face up to ten years in prison and a fine of up to 60,000 lei over passive corruption.
