Children and elderly people planted 'solidarity trees'

The elderly of several care homes in the country have planted trees and bushes in the homes’ gardens with the help schoolchildren. The action themed “The Solidarity Garden” is part of the “Age Demands Action” social campaign, initiated by the Ministry of Labor, Social Security and Family, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Taking part in the event, Minister Valentina Buliga noted that such actions unite the youth and the elderly.
The National Commerce College and School no.24 were represented by students who helped the elderly plant trees in the garden of the National Care Home for the Elderly and Disabled People. The children teens often visit the old people at the Home. Following the planting, the students put on a show.
The “Age Demands Action” campaign is supported by UNFPA Moldova, Helpage International and the Age Demands Action. Nicola Harrington Buhay, UN coordinator and representative of PNUD in Moldova said that longevity needs to be a sign of accomplishment for every country, and in no case a burden. “We the people need each other. The garden that was planted today should be a sign of solidarity between ages”,.
The elderly and the children have planted oak and walnut saplings, as well as decorative bushes. The planting materials were offered by the state-run company “Moldsilva”.
Held for the first time this year, the “Solidarity Garden” action is planned to take place annually on the International Day of Older Persons.
