Chisinau City Hall awards weightlifters Iovu and Sarghi

Weightlifters Cristina Iovu and Oleg Sarghi received money awards from the Chisinau City Hall for the results achieved at the European Championships, Info-Prim Neo reports. Cristina Iovu, 19, had an excellent performance at the European Weightlifting Championships in Antalya. She lifted a total of 207 kg - 91 kg in snatch and 116 kg in clean and jerk. She thus qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. “It is an honor to present this miss as a student of the Municipal Sports Lyceum. We offer her a small award of 10,000 lei so that she is able to prepare for the Olympics,” said the head of the mayor’s executive Lilian Carp. Oleg Sarghi, who won silver at the same competition for seniors, received 5,000 lei from the City Hall. “We are sure that Oleg Sarghi has only started to achieve results. It is a good result for Moldova. He will definitely represent us successfully at the future Olympic Games,” stated Lilian Carp. Athletes’ coaches were awarded by 3,000 lei. At this year’s European Weightlifting Championships, Moldova has won three golds, three silvers and four bronzes. Cristina Iovu became an absolute European champion in the 53kg class.
