The municipal councilors and priests say the gay parade can lead to disturbances and ask Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca to ban it, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a statement addressed to the mayor, the councilors say the absolute majority of the residents of the municipality of Chisinau are Christians, while the intentions of the so-called group (organizers of the parade – e.n.) to present the abnormal sexual practices as normal practices are a defiance of the traditions of the community and seriously infringe the religious rights of the persons. The councilors say the mayor can invoke article 8 of the Assembly Law, which says that the meetings that infringe public morality, the rights and freedoms of other persons are banned. The priests also made an approach to the mayor, asking that he ban the gay parade as it can lead to public disorder and the destabilization of the situation. An initiative group informed the City Hall that they intend to stage a gay parade in the Great National Assembly square on May 4. Last year, the homosexuals gave up holding the parade in protest against the violation of the right to assembly. In 2008, the parade of gays and lesbians was foiled by counter-protesters. The police followed the events from a distance and did not intervene. The protesters were blocked in the bus and treated rudely.
