Representatives of the country’s educational institutions and international organizations have gathered at the second edition of the Teachers’ Forum to exchange experience and good practices in the field of values-based education, IPN reports.
Attending the event, President Maia Sandu noted that she wants Moldovan teachers to think not about papers and salaries, but about the children in the classroom. But children should also think of teachers with respect and enter school with the awareness of their own responsibility. The aim is to attract as many education specialists as possible, which is why salaries have been increased and more facilities have been introduced.
The official said the referendum on joining the EU is a chance to protect us and a chance for all the country’s children to have the same rights as a French, German or Polish child. In this connection, she urged the teachers to meditate on the role of the teacher.
Minister of Education Dan Perciun said that teachers are the ones who can contribute to the formation of a generation that is confident in its own strength, with critical thinking, that believes in democracy and is open to the new and capable of making decisions. For the school to cultivate particular values in children, internal processes and practices must be aligned with the declared values. The minister proposed that the teachers at the forum should discuss the autonomy, democracy, innovation and what can be done for the education system to contribute more to the formation of these values.
The program of the forum also includes the launch of the Network of Beginner Teachers, with young people who have been employed this year in schools and kindergartens. On the last day of the forum, on August 16, a workshop will be staged at the Labor Institute with representatives of local education divisions responsible for conducting district forums.
The second Teachers’ Forum is held during August 14-16.
