Chisinau to host new international festival “Days of New Music”

The 26th international contemporary music festival “Days of New Music” will take place at the National Philharmonic Orchestra in Chisinau on June 6-17. The organizers said the spectators this year will also enjoy an interesting festival with a lot of music, meetings and surprises, IPN reports.

The festival’s executive director Pavel Gamurari told a news conference that the 2017 edition includes symphonies, chamber prices of music written by Romanian, Russian, Belarusian and Moldovan composers and classical composers of contemporary universal music. Six concerts will be given during the festival. The event will be opened by a concert by the National Chamber Orchestra of the Organ Hall.

“The series of symphonic music concerts will be opened on June 7 with a concert to render homage to Romanian pianist and composer Dinu Lipatti. The four concerts, of June 7, 8, 11 and 16, form part of the project of Romanian music from both sides of the Prut. The symphonic music concerts will be given by the National Orchestra of the Public Company “Teleradio Moldova” and by the Symphonic Orchestra of the National Philharmonic,” stated Gamurari.

According to Pavel Gamurari, the last concert of this year’s edition, of June 17, includes works by composers from Belarus, Russia, Romania and the Republic of Moldova. This will feature violoncellist Anton Niculescu of Romania, pianist Lidia Ciubuc, contemporary music ensemble Ars Poetica and Choir “Doina” of Moldova, music group Kaizer – Band of Belarus, clarinetist Eduard Terol and pianist Silvia Gomez – Maestro of Spain.

The festival’s artistic director Gennady Ciobanu said the goal of the artistic event is to familiarize the public with the values of contemporary music and to promote the modern arts and music.
