Chisinau veterans to get by 500 lei on May 9

The persons who took part in the Second World War will receive by 500 lei from the Chisinau City Hall on the occasion of May 9, when it is celebrated victory over fascism. The war invalids and widows will get by 100 lei more, Info-Prim Neo reports. In the May 2 meeting of City Hall officials, the head of the Social-Humanitarian and Interethnic Relations Division Nina Stratulat said in the municipality of Chisinau there are over 5,000 veterans who fought the war as part of the Russian and Romanian armies. The Veterans Association informed the local authorities that they will stage a meeting at the Memorial Complex “Eternity” on May 9. Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said the meeting can be held immediately after the official festivities. The Communist Party intends to mount a march on May 9. World War II in Europe ended on May 8, 1945, when Nazi Germany capitulated unconditionally. The time 23.01, Central Europe time, was indicated in the capitulation document. By Moscow time, it took effect on May 9 and thus victory over fascism is marked on this day. In Asia the war continued until Japan surrendered on August 15.
