The lights on the Christmas Tree in Chisinau could be turned on on the very first winter day, as in the European capitals. At a meeting of the municipal services and divisions on Monday, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said a final decision will be taken within two days, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the mayor, the previous years Chisinau followed another tradition and installed the Christmas Tree in the Great National Assembly Square much later. This year, it will be set up in the first days of December or even on December 1.
Ieliferie Haruta, the head of the Green Spaces Associations, said that they have looked for a suitable tree for several days. The trees growing near he capital city are lower than 10-12 meters.
For his part, the head of Lumteh company Nicolae Vereshko said the works to illuminate the street section between the City Hall and Patria Cinema are close to an end.
During two years, the central Communist authorities and the Chisinau administration headed by the Liberal mayor Dorin Chirtoaca had fought a 'fir tree war'. Last year, the City Hall's tree that was 17 meters in height was purchased from a private owner. The traffic police detained the car that was transporting the fir tree, arguing the driver did not have an ecological certificate. Several days later, the given tree was stolen from the Straseni forest grounds.
