Firefighters warn the people to be careful when handling the Christmas tree, decorative lighting and fireworks as they can cause injuries and fires when used imprudently.
Diana Turcan, press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, told Info-Prim Neo that the natural fir trees can catch fire quicker than the artificial ones, especially if they are dry.
The defective ornamental lighting, the sources of heat situated nearby or the burning candles left unsupervised can set the fir tree on fire.
It is recommended using the lights only during two years. The fir tree should be placed in a cool room and on a stand far from curtains, stoves, radiators, or fireplaces, not on carpets or wooden floor.
Increased attention must be paid to pyrotechnics because they also can cause fires. The danger can be avoided if the instructions are followed strictly. The fireworks must be bought only in specialized stores.
The police also warn the people to be prudent when they leave homes on holidays and to make sure that their property is safe.
