The winner of the International Documentary Film Festival Chronograph will obtain this year a trophy in the form of a cactus inside a bronze screen and 10,000 lei. The authors of another nine films that will go through to the final will receive prizes of 5,000 to 7,000 lei. The festival is opened today, May 11, with the film “Rabbit at la Berlin” that will be screened at Odeon Cinema Theater starting at 19.00, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The head of the jury Victor Bucataru said the best films will be shown as part of the festival. “About 300 films were presented for participation in the festival, including films with political connotations and propaganda, but we chose only poetical-philosophical films,” he said.
The festival' artistic director Leontina Vatamanu said that Moldova is participating with two films - “Queen Marie” and “This is Moldova”. “The number of Moldovan films presented at the festival decreases every year. Through this festival, we also want to promote films made by our directors,” said Leontina Vatamanu.
Cristian Tabara, the head of the Films Department of the Romanian channel TVR, said the Moldovan films are more open and real than the Romanian ones. “I cannot say why. Maybe the school is different, but I'm impressed by the films made here,” Cristian Tabara said, adding he wants very much to establish cooperation relations with Moldovan directors.
All the films will be broadcast in the language in which they were made. 80% of them will be subtitled in Romanian. Those who want to watch the films must purchase a ticket of 20 lei for the whole day.
The festival includes three sections. Twenty-seven films from 26 countries will be shown in the Main Section. Eleven films from seven countries will compete in the CadRO Section. Documentaries made by national television channels will be screened in the National Production Section.
Fourteen documentaries will be shown on May 12, 13 and 15 at the National Museum of Archeology and History of Moldova. Chronograph is the only international documentary film festival in Moldova. It was launched and is organized annually by OWH Studio.
