The CIS Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA) is an institution where important decisions are taken, including for Moldova. However, this Assembly is not as known as the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), MP Chiril Lucinschi said in a news conference at IPN, where a contest for journalists centering on the work of the CIS IPA was launched.
The lawmaker said the journalists write a lot about the activity of the Moldovan legislative body, but the work of the CIS IPA remains unknown to the people. He gave as example the joint meeting of the CIS IPA and the PACE, which centered on Russia’s opinion on Moldova’s European course, which is an important matter for the country. But the Moldovan media outlets practically didn’t cover this event.
The contest for journalists was organized by the parliamentary commission on culture, education, research, youth and mass media, the Secretariat of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the Chisinau branch of the International Institute of Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection for the Citizens of the IPA CIS Member Nations.
The contest that will take place between March 10 and June 30 is aimed at encouraging the Moldovan journalists to cover the work of the CIS IPA.
Chiril Lucinschi voiced hope that the Parliament of Moldova will be able to invite Moldovan journalists to St. Petersburg, where the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly holds its meetings.
To take part in the contest, the journalists must submit at least four materials (articles, news, features, interviews) to the email address iv_alina987@mail.ru until June 30 inclusive.
