A number of civil society organizations of Moldova condemn the starting of a criminal case by the special services of the Transnistrian region against “Promo-LEX” Association, which defends human rights. The NGOs addressed a letter to Parliament, the Government and the embassies working in Chisinau, expressing their indignation at the fact that on April 17, 2015, the so-called committee for state security (local KGB) of Transnistria made public a statement in which the activity of the civil society organizations, especially “Promo-LEX”, is described as aimed against the breakaway republic’s ‘statehood’ and it thus brought legal proceedings, IPN reports.

The statement signed by over 30 NGOs says the activity of “Promo-LEX” in the area of human rights is well-known. For its efforts, including the promotion of the human rights in the Transnistrian region, the Association was awarded by national and international institutions. The Association showed to society in Moldova and the international community how serious the violations of the basic human rights and fundamental freedoms in Transnistria are.

The signatories demand publicly condemning the actions of the unconstitutional administration and call on the OSCE Mission to Moldova to immediately intervene and seek grantees for the NGOs working in this region. They also demand that the constitutional authorities should ensure guarantees and take the required protection and security measures and including this exceptional and unprecedented case in the agenda of the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format and in the agendas of other national and international authorities.
