Civil society will play greater role in lawmaking

A working group consisting of MPs and representatives of civil society, who came together for the first meeting, will draft legislative amendments aimed at ensuring transparency in the decision-making process. After the meeting, Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu said they aim to ensure a greater role for civil society in lawmaking, alongside Parliament, so that there is transparency and societal control over legislative work, IPN reports.

The working group consists of MP Oxana Domenti, Sergiu Sarbu, Ion Casian, Iurie Tap, Grigore Novac, Simion Plesca, Eugen Carpov, and Anatolie Zagorodnyi, plus five representatives of civil society, five of the Parliament’s Secretariat and two of the Ministry of Justice.

Andrian Candu said the new website of Parliament could be launched next week. This will offer more instruments to civil society. “We are in the process of launching the new website of Parliament. We agreed with representatives of civil society to discuss and analyze this website so that it helps us ensure greater transparency in the Parliament’s actions,” he stated.

The representatives of civil society suggested updating the plan of action of the Civil Society Development Strategy and adopting a series of legislative amendments and supplements to ensure greater efficiency and transparency in the decision-making process. They also proposed publishing details legislative plans that could be consulted with interested organizations at any stage of the legislative process.
