The State University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemiţanu” of Moldova said it received no official notification concerning the new conditions for recognizing the diplomas of graduates from Israel, who studied medicine outside the country. The University noted it informed itself about this from the website of the Ministry of Health of Israel. The clarification was made following journalistic reports about the non-recognition of diplomas issued by medicine universities from former Soviet states by Israel, which appeared in the international and national press recently, IPN reports.

In a press release, the University said last December the scandal concerning the false diplomas in Israel was broadly covered by all the local media channels and serious accusations were made against the University without providing evidence. “This fact misinformed the public and damaged the country’s image and the University’s image too. There was broadcast incorrect information with defaming and accusing titles about the involvement of “Nicolae Testemiţanu” University in particular fraudulent schemes, without providing conclusive proofs. Moreover, the authors of the articles posted videos of the University’s image and of international graduates and current international students of “Nicolae Testemiţanu” University. Their dignity and, implicitly, the dignity of the institution, were affected,” it is said in the press release.

The State University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemiţanu” requests and recommends the journalists to document themselves and to broadcast accurate information in accordance with the provisions of the Journalist’s Deontological Code of Moldova. The institution assures that immediately after it is officially informed about the Israeli authorities’ decision, the University will issue a press release about this.

The University noted that after the inter-ministerial commission that identified no violations in the education process of international students at the University passed its decision, particular representatives of the media didn’t deny and didn’t correct the unfounded information published earlier. Based on a decision adopted by the Broadcasting Coordination Council on January 20, “Nicolae Testemițanu” University demands to correct all the denigrating titles and incorrect reports.
