The cold-month allowance this season will be 315 lei, up from 250 lei the previous cold season, IPN reports, quoting a decision of the acting Government. Thus, the cumulative sum for November – December 2015 and January –March 2016 will be 1,575 lei.
The move follows the rise in the electric power and natural gas tariffs. The increased cold-month allowances are intended mainly for families with low incomes.
The money for covering the related costs was earmarked following the amendment of the 2015 state budget.
Only the local social assistance and family protection divisions can decide who is entitled to the cold-month allowance. The Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family calls on the families with low incomes to submit applications to the given divisions so as to get such allowances.
