A plaque in memory of academician Nicolae Garbalau, illustrious scientist and founder of the school of macrocyclic and supramolecular coordination chemistry, was attached to the facade of the Chemistry Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. Nicolae Garbalau wrote four monographs and over 350 scientific articles that were published in the most prestigious scientific journals in the world. The results of his scientific researches have been widely used in the national economy. During the unveiling of the plaque on August 4, Tudor Lupascu, director of the Chemistry Institute, said that Nicolae Garbalau made some important new discoveries in chemistry owing to which Chisinau became a world center. “This plaque renders homage to Nicolae Garbalau, who was a personality in the macrocyclic and supramolecular coordination chemistry, born in Moldova and promoted everywhere,” Tudor Lupascu said. The academician has obtained 36 patents on inventions and played a special role in preparing highly-qualified specialists. More than 32 Doctors of Chemistry and Doctor Habilitate of Chemistry completed their dissertations under the guidance of Nicolae Garbalau. His pupils work in many countries of the world. One of them, chemist Vasile Rusu, covered the cost of this commemorative plaque. The Chemistry Institute intends to provide a “Nicolae Garbalau” award.
