The simple motion submitted by the Communist lawmakers, by which they demanded that Minster of the Interior Dorin Recean be dismissed, was rejected. Only 31 MPs voted in favor at a time when at least 51 votes were needed, IPN reports.

Questioned in Parliament, Dorin Recean denied the fact that the number of crimes is on the rise, as the Communists asserted. He noted that a broad denigration campaign against him and the police was launched recently. “We are convinced that we chose the correct path. The initiated reforms are those needed to modernize the system,” he said, adding that the Communist Party never aimed to fight corruption and to ensure transparency at the Ministry of the Interior.

Dorin Recean assured that the reforms will be implemented till the end. A substantial reform has been done since his appointment and the institution was separated from the political factor, while the 8% rise in the people’s confidence is one of the achieved results. However, the number of offenses in some of the areas increased, as for example of complaints about domestic violence, of infractions against minors and of cases of DUI.

Asked why the number of road accidents rose, especially involving minibuses, the minister said that he made numerous approaches to the Chisinau Municipal Council and the Chisinau City Hall to reorganize the transport system so that the passengers be transported only seated and with seatbelts at every seat.

The Communist MPs accused the minister of ineffective reformation, of not responding promptly when need be and of the fact that 20 police officers have one car, which is old. Liberal-Democratic MP Ion Butmalai said the police reform is not done overnight and more money is needed for the purpose, while Recean was proposed by the coalition and not the Communists MPs will dismiss him.

Dorin Recean was named Minister of the Interior in July 2012.
