The Government approved changes to the framework regulations concerning the organization of the activity of community mediators, IPN reports.
The service was instituted in 2013 to promote harmonious interethnic relations in communities, including by supporting the social integration of the Roma. In 2015, the responsibility for financing the community mediator service was shifted onto the local public authorities. In the absence of financial resources, only nine of the 48 necessary community mediators worked. Taking into account this fact and the importance of the given service, the Government decided to cover the costs associated with the activity of community mediators by making special purpose transfers from the state budget to the local budgets.
A sum of 2.239,6 million lei is needed for the purpose.
