A community volunteer firefighters’ post was officially opened in Pârlița village of Ungheni district. This will serve 18 neighboring villages with a total population of over 20,000. Now that this post became available, the intervention period will decrease by about 15 minutes, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations has said
The firefighters’ post was built from foundations and was outfitted with the necessary firefighting equipment and with a special vehicle with financial support from the Austrian Development Agency and Estonia. The local authorities also contributed. The total investment was €169,800.
“I’m proud to form part of the team of volunteer firefighters who will ensure the security of locals in situations of risk. In case of fire, every second is important. The station inaugurated today will enable to reduce the response time,” said Ludmila Nistor, the mayor of Pârlița.
The firefighters’ post in Pârlița is one of the four posts that were built and equipped with the assistance of Austria. This way, at least 65 communities in four beneficiary districts, with a total population of over 60,000, will benefit from increased protection against natural disasters and man-made disasters, said Gunther Zimmer, Head of the Coordination Office for Technical Cooperation of the Austrian Embassy in Chisinau.
General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations chief Alexandru Oprea said the post was included in the emergency response scheme and all the calls that will be made from Pârlița and the neighboring villages will be redirected to the new rescue station. All the volunteer firefighters of the post were trained by employees of the Inspectorate to perform early intervention operations.
The post will have 56 volunteer firefighters chosen from among locals.
