In early 2015, 80 social apartments will be offered to dwellers in Briceni and Sangerei districts, as well as several other houses in 8 towns and villages in Hancesti district. IPN learned from Ecaterina Staci-Grigorean, spokesperson at the Ministry of Regional Development and Constructions, that the houses will be offered to families with many children, people with special needs and young specialists.
The social apartments are allocated by the local public authorities. The Ministry only builds them and leaves them under the management of town halls. The dwellers aren't offered ownership of the apartments, but will only rent them and will have to pay a monthly rental fee. The local authorities will repay the loan contracted for the construction of the block.
Ecaterina Staci-Grigorean said the beneficiary families will be visited once in 5 years by a special commission that will evaluate their income and decide whether they have the right to remain in the social apartment.
In Calarasi, for example, the rental fee for an apartment with 3 rooms is 500 lei per month.
Minister Marcel Raducan has recently announced in his end of term report that the construction of a 72 apartment block in Soroca and a 100 apartment block in Leova is already underway. According to him, by 2018, the authorities will have built about 700 social apartments for 2500 low income families.
